Mountain Biking

The North Baltimore County Copperheads are the Carroll Manor Recreation Council youth mountain biking team with members from Towson to Parkton and all areas in between. The team is one of 25+ in the Maryland Interscholastic Cycling League (MICL). The league operates under the principles and guidelines of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA).

The team is for boys and girls in grades 6 through 12 (as of Fall enrollment) looking to learn how to mountain bike or become a better mountain bike rider.  All riders and skill levels are welcome. We ride and race as part of the Maryland Interscholastic Cycling League which is a state subsidiary of the National League.

Our team philosophy is fun first, and our central goal is for student athletes to develop a strong body, mind and character through mountain biking. There are no tryouts. Everyone rides no matter his/her ability and skill level. Racing is optional and not required to join the team.

The season officially begins July 1st and runs into early November. Practices are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings along with some Saturdays mornings, weather and conditions permitting.  Attendance at all practices is not required, but new riders will need to learn and demonstrate a certain level of skill before participating in trail rides.

Practices are typically held at Loch Raven Reservoir with trail riding in Loch Raven Reservoir and Little Gunpowder Falls State Park. Five race events are planned across the state for the late summer and fall. Races are typically a weekend event, with pre-rides of the course and non-competitive activities typically on Saturday and races activities on Sunday.

Registration is open! Registration starts through Stone Alley and is followed by a league invitation through the national league website (NICA Pit Zone) after April 1st.
