CMRC Fall Soccer
Program
News from the Soccer
Chair (9/17):
The Fall Season has
now gotten underway, and we appreciate all the volunteers,
who have stepped up to make "CMRC Soccer 2011" a
success. Opening Day was - despite the slight drizzle - a
great success. I hope than nobody lost any small children
in the tall grass of Hydes!
Please accept my
apologies for things getting started so late; we have had
a multitude of obstacles to pass, amongst others my inexperience,
and an absolutely horrible weather, power, and Internet situation.
For next year, I intend to appoint a WPI Commissioner to deal
with this aspect of soccer!
I have to admit as
well that I have struggled getting through my more than 100
emails a day from (and to) concerned soccer parents, over
the last couple of weeks. I have responded to each email I
have received as soon as possible, and mostly within a couple
of hours. However, it is not possible to please everybody,
and I do apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced.
Please remember as well that CMRC Soccer is based on the work
of volunteers: some who are very organized, some who are organized,
and some who are not particularly organized. One thing that
ties all of us together though is the love of soccer, and,
at the end of the day, that is what really counts.
Let me get you up
to date on where CMRC Soccer is this year. In 2010, the program
had about 450 players, and in 2011, so far, we have enlisted
more than 600 players, which is very satisfying. We have seen
a great development in our travel teams, and furthermore,
we have seen a fantastic development in our Hotshots and U8
age groups. This is the future of CMRC Soccer, and we will
do anything we can, to ensure that this positive development
continues.
If you take a moment
to look at the U12 Boys league, for instance, we have grown
from a meager two-team league in 2010 to an eight-team league
in 2011, with St. James Academy and Towsontowne as important
partners. Including the St. James teams, who joined CMRC this
year, we are mustering more than 700 players.
From a field perspective, we are aware that things are not
optimal. I have taken upon myself to work with the chairs
of the other field programs to improve the state of particularly
the Hydes fields, but as we are working in concert with the
Baltimore County, we are limited to do only the impossible
from day to day. Miracles indeed will take a little longer!
I am looking forward
to work with you all as parents and volunteers, and I wish
you all a great "2011 Fall Season"!
Stay tuned for frequent news!
Cheers,
Thomas Beckwith
